The last few days of our trip was spent in Edinburgh, a beautiful city. We stayed across the street from the Royal Botanical Gardens at the Inverleith Hotel in the Four Poster Room that was very nice (save the typically small bathroom). The botanical gardens were great and the hot house tour if pretty impressive. We also did the castle tour like good tourist and shopped on the Royal Mile. First stop on the way to the castle was an old church, St. Cuthbert. There was a group of people there who gave us a lovely tour of the church and helped us find the grave of Thomas De Quincey.
Keith at the grave of Thomas De Quincey. Next to it was a grave for an American who died in 1793 and was remembered by his friends as "the amiable American stranger". The grave yard there is full of interesting stones from long ago.
After touring the grave yard, the castle and doing some shopping, we stopped for our afternoon pint of Tennants. "T" is for Tennants Next day, back to New York and the day following, back to California. |
